Since
June 2009, Laura Ashworth and her ex-husband Jeffery Ashworth have been seeking
compensation for the injuries and losses they claim to have experienced as a
result of using the I-Flow Corporation's On-Q Painbuster pain pump.
According
to official court documents, Laura Ashworth had two shoulder surgeries in 2006.
It was during the second surgery that physicians implanted an I-Flow Pain Pump
into her shoulder joint. Over time, the pump administered harmful medications
to Ashworth and, as a result, caused her to sustain a painful, incurable
condition known as postarthroscopic glenohumeral chondrolysis (PAGCL).
In
addition to pain, PAGCL results in permanent loss of range of arm motion and
significant weakness of the shoulder joint. The extent of the injuries required
Ashworth to undergo a costly, invasive shoulder replacement surgery.
So
far the Ashford's have filed three claims against the I-Flow Corporation,
seeking compensation in excess of $75,000. The three claims are based on:
